Residents of a crime-ridden community find their lives forever changed with the arrival of a mysterious, new tenant, called "Smith." Under the plague of mankind's inhumanity, they suffer, but with his extraordinary powers, Smith aims to be the cure.

The Samaritan is a comic that manages to be both beautiful and terrible all at the same time. At its face it could be just another tale of a super powered vigilante, but writer Victor Dandridge Jr. isn't just like everyone else. He drives much further into the depths of the souls of people who live in the slum to bring to life characters who aren't just victims to be saved, but rather people who have been victimized that need to feed on a little bit of hope.

This is a very adult comic, there is violence, the dialogue is real and brutal. It will remind you of that kid down the hall that was violated but no knew or cared to know. It may even remind you of the people that make you nervous to walk along a dimly lit street at night. It should. Because that's what this book is about, not an archetypal imprint of the world that exists to justify a savior. Its the real world. It's your street. It's your home town, it's what could be happening to you at this very moment.

I love that Dandridge builds a world with real problems, filled with real people. Smith is a clever, damaged character that I couldn't get enough of. McKenzie's art was gorgeous. Its black and white the way it needs to be filled with deep shadows and glaring light sources that create those shadows. This is a prime example of the comics that need to be made.

I met the creator of the book @ ComicCon and i brought the whole series the same day this book is how comics should be written , im waiting to see the next half of the series. I gv 9.5. .. if u ever meet him he is a down to earth brother..
The Samaritan is moving, well drawn and entertaining. My only complaint is that there isn't more. How about a volume 3, guys?
What can I say, this comic is something special. It's dark and gritty. It's edgy, it has a glimmer of hope in it. Most importantly, it's a damn good story. Dandridge and McKenzie have really done a bang up job creating a story that captures the darkest depths of mankind and the right protagonist to counter it and offer hope.
This is a story of the Hero who doesn't save the world with a cape but instead saves the hood one apartment at a time. Sometimes being a Hero is something glamours its heart-wrenching. With the powerful writing of this story you get to feel humanity at its worse and the potential for humanities greatest moments of compassion and caring.
