First let me say that this book can be read as a standalone but I would recommend reading Jaybird first so you get invested in all the characters and fall hard like I did.

Mackenzie is a slow burn book. It's more realistic than an insta love.

Cole is in high school and his life changes completely. When I read about the surprise I was shocked. It was so good I never saw it coming. He isn't the best guy when I comes to females but that's when you fall for him even more when he starts to see himself differently. He starts to grow up.

Harper! You just feel for her and her life. So much as happened to her and she is still standing on her own two feet. She's weak yet strong. She's imperfectly perfect.

This story is about loss, love, friendship and hope.

It will make you smile and cry and feel happy that you read their story.

I'm not a big YA or NA reader but with this author her writing is so good I couldn't pass up this story. I'll be reading all her upcoming books for sure.

Loved this story! Mackenzie was a pleasant surprise for me. I was hooked from the very beginning, and was almost in tears a couple chapters in. This was a well written story with both relatable and likeable characters. I really liked Cole, he was a typical teen, but also very mature, insightful, and thoughtful. I also liked the dynamic between the characters, you felt their bond, and believed it was real. I could go on forever, but all in all, it was a wonderful story that deserves a lot of praise -) Note This book is a standalone, but have many of the same characters in it as the author's first book, "Jaybird". And though I was able to follow along just fine, it would have been helpful to have read Book 1 first, to know more of their history. Great book, I highly recommend!
The best kind of emotional journey a book could have. Mackenzie sucks you in from page one and keeps the twists coming not to mention the all of the juicy drama M.A Foster can smush into a book. The anticipation of the romance and the slow realistic burn of it just adds to the already perfect mix. Making this one of the best contemporary books I have read lately. You will laugh, you will cry, and you may just stay up all night reading it.
I wanted to write a review worthy enough for Mackenzie, thus I am LATE writing this review....ever the procrastinator. But better late than never. I would actually give this read a 10+ star review if I could. I fell in love with M.A.'s writing with her debut read Jaybird. She is an amazing word-weaver that can draw you into her plot and make you laugh, yell and cry, and every other emotion possible. I loved her writing in Jaybird, with her being able to write intertwined plots from different view points and never miss a beat. I was anticipating the release of Mackenzie with the trepidation of any reader who has enjoyed a great book, thinking how is this author going to top the previous success.
Well let me tell ya, you have NO worries while reading Mackenzie. She has outdone herself with the plot and use of her words. Although Jaybird will remain my fav of M.A.s, Mackenzie will sneak up on you, knock on your door and bowl you over when you open the door (maybe even bring dessert).
Mackenzie is the second in the Heritage Bay Series that also is written along the same timeline as Jaybird. It's BRILLIANT!! This story is a combination of friendship, family, teenage angst growing into adulthood. Even though there is the presence of the usual teenage drama, it's the style of writing that M.A. gives us that is unique.
Cole is the popular & outgoing, All-American HS football player. Family, football and of course girls is all that is in Cole's sights until he is introduced and instantly smitten with Harper. Harper is the damaged wallflower that has had more than her share of heartache. Cole wants nothing more than to make her his, even though that would be a first for him.Their journey is NOT all sunshine and rainbows. I will not reveal any spoilers other than to say if you do not believe in Kismet or fate or whatever, you WILL after reading Mackenzie.
Mackenzie could be read as a stand alone BUT why miss out on Jaybird, the start of the Heritage Bay Series. You won't be sorry.

This is the story of Cole and Harper who we met in Jaybird, MA’s first book.

At the beginning Cole finds out he has a child who he’ll be raising on his own, with the help of his family. Willow is the most adorable child I’ve ever read in a book and she totally added to the story.

Harper is orphaned after losing the only family she had. Her and Cole become friends and later more, but a major secret threatens to pull them apart.

This is unlike any book I’ve ever read. I can’t wait to see what this author has for us next.

Mackenzie was an outstanding book that is told in dual POV between Cole Mackenzie and Harper Murphy.  This is the second book I have read from MA Foster and she is becoming one of my all-time favorite authors.  This storyline will make you feel so many emotions! I felt crazy going from laughing, to crying, to falling in love with all the characters.

What would you do if you felt like you lost all the people who you loved? I felt bad for Harper that she felt she had to keep to herself for so long without any help. Cole was attracted to Harper as soon as he saw her at Mac's but she had no interest in him because she was afraid to get close for reasons I can’t disclose because it would give away so much! Cole is the type of guy that doesn't date but when he sees Harper... Game Over!
