Arrgh! Why did it have to end? Max spent an entire book trying to win Lily back and end the love triangle that existed between Lily, Patricio and himself, and I was not ready to say goodbye to these characters when the time came! Max was thoughtful and sexy and trying so hard to make amends for his past bad behavior, and I could have gone on watching his efforts to win Lily back all day! I love her, I love him, and I love Mimi for bringing them to life.

Like most of Mimi Jean’s books, It’s a Fugly Life was hilarious. From her wheel-chair bound brother socking Max in the family jewels, to Lily’s doorbell ringing non-stop bringing one unwanted visitor after another, I enjoyed the hell out of myself. It was funny and sexy and adorable and heart-wrenchingly honest.

In this follow up to Fugly, Lily has a new face and a new life. She is no longer the horribly unattractive woman on the outside, but it goes to show that her scars are more than just skin deep. She still harbors the little fugly voice inside her head that tells her she’s not good enough. Not good enough to keep a man as attractive as Max, not good enough to go after the career dreams she truly wants, not good enough to deserve the all-encompassing love she has found. She’s willing to settle for a lukewarm relationship rather than the explosive passion she feels, out of fear and a creepy little voice in her ear that tells her she shouldn’t have everything she wants. She’s everyone that has every talked themselves out of something that they really wanted. She’s every woman that felt she was not good enough for what she deserved. She’s brave and honest and flawed and I couldn’t adore her as the heroine more.

Max was just as flawed. He was a cocky, rich jerk at times, but her also understood his shortcomings and worked hard to get over them. He always had Lily’s best interests at heart, and I crossed my fingers that he would be the man that Lily deserved.

It’s a Fugly Life was a pure joy to read. It was serious, it was light, it was fun and it was sad. It was a whole mess of emotions rolled into one package that I couldn’t put down and didn’t want to end.

This story begins six months after Fugly ends. Lily is no longer the ugly young woman people stare at in shock and revulsion after a car accident forces her to have plastic surgery. She finally seems to have her once chaotic life under control after moving home to California, opening her own business, and dating a man who helped her through the aftermath. Everything is going well until Max blows back into Lily’s life with the force of a category-five tornado to make a shocking proposal.

Although Lily never really got over Max, she prefers him to stay in the past and turns him down. But Max is nothing if not determined and sets out to change her mind. He pulls out all the stops to try and get her back, but this may be an instance in which his money and power can’t give him an advantage.

When a family crisis sends Max out of the country, Lily is forced to fill in for him by running his newest business, which he started up as a gift to her. She’s pleasantly surprised to see that she has most definitely been on his mind since they parted ways. All of the feelings she once had for him rush back in and threaten to turn her new life upside down. Caught in emotional conflict, she tries to decide whether this new version of Max is worth a second chance.

After being blown away and thrown for a loop at the end of Fugly, I couldn’t read It’s a Fugly Life fast enough. This sequel was everything I hoped for and more. Not only did I get more of my beloved Lily, but a new and improved version of Max. While he still had some crass and crude moments, he mostly conducted himself like the kind of man Lily deserves. I felt sad to see this series end and will miss this couple.
Another wonderful read by MJP! I find Maxwell Cole absolutely divine. Their relationship between Max and Lily is filled with trust issues, angst, funny and tragic influences, personal demons, and love...loads and loads of love. It's just buried under absurd and out of control circumstances! I laughed and (damn you MJP...) cried. I hate crying. Lily's a different person now, on the outside. Not having the "fugly" face anymore changes so much for her and as much as she tries to adapt, she is still the same person she's always been - thank god! It's Max that must change, for himself, and he really does. And it was believable. And it was gut wrenching. This series is the perfect combination of laugh out loud funny and poignant honesty. These characters feel so real, so present in the moment when you are reading them it compels you to stay with them through every moment! The brother, the crazy Italian family, the horrible future MIL, all add to moments of deep reflection through laughter and face-palming disbelief! I’ll forever grin to myself when I think of the doorbell ringing…over and over and over! Thanks for another amazing story MJP! This is a must-read duet, and you are official on my one-click addict list!
I received a REVIEW copy in exchange for an honest review. The story is a contemporary romance by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff. This is the second book in the "Fugly" series. "It's a Fugly Life" is grad 'A' reading (as to be expected coming from the author).

There was much pacing, crying, the berating the characters and the author for putting me through such emotional torture. I was having to step away from the book just to catch an emotional breather only to be called back to continue the journey. It nearly killed me. I couldn't stop myself. ...But I survived and all the better for reading this book.

I highly recommend this book for your reading pleasure.
