Book Description
Chase Williams is a demon hunter in the Circle, or at least he was supposed to be. On his fifteenth birthday, Chase stepped up to the altar to claim his elemental power, but it never came. Fantasy is not my genre - I love a good zombie and the occassional vampire or werewolf, but demons and warlocks and trolls aren't really my thing. I'm not sure quite WHY, but we've just never really clicked. But The Protector series is one that I've heard loads about, and it sounded pretty damn good so once again it was time to step out of the comfort zone and try something different.Exiled opens with the shocker of Chase being thrown out of the Circle for not having any magic despite his impressive family bloodline, and learning pretty damn quickly to survive in a world where demons are constantly trying to kill him, without the help of magic.
I really liked Chase - he's stubborn and handy with a dagger, but also shows incredibly loyalty to the people that are important to him, and with a smart-ass attitude he is just the kind of character I enjoy meeting in the pages of a book. There are a cast of other characters, both goodies and baddies, and all of them are well-rounded, memorable and unique. And unlike many other fantasy novels, there is something for everyone - vampires, witches and trolls compete and work together throughout the story.
Exiled runs at a pretty fast pace - there are very few periods of downtime, and those scenes that are a little slower are vital to the plot, so it's a fast and furious read. There are frantic, scary fight scenes and more than a little bit of magic to keep even the most die-hard fantasy fan happy.
And those trolls and warlocks? Well I may have to rethink my stance on that - M.R. Merrick has created a fantasy world that isn't overwhelmingly extreme, yet is imaginative, fun and scary all at the same time. I'm really looking forward to reading more of this series.

So I have to say this book really surprised me. I'm not use to reading books written by a male and I have to admit I was a little skeptical at first. It took me a little while to get through the book and it's not because I didn't like it because I totally loved it! It's amazingly written, this author is a complete genius I swear. So you're probably wondering why it took me some time to get through it right? Well if you noticed the books I usually read are well, love stories. Exiled is packed with magic, vampires, demons, half-demons, and hunters, not to mention some awesome action scenes. So you can see why it took me some time to get through it, it's definitely a deep book and once I set time aside to actually dive in it captivated me until I finished it!
So Chase, he's a hunter who is living in the shadow of his father Riley Williams. Riley is famous amongst the Circle and the Underworlders as the fiercest fighter. On the day that Chase goes to the ceremony to see what elemental power he will have, something happens that leads to Chase and his mom Tessa being Exiled from the circle. Now they are living on their own and every time Chase is trying to get home, demons or vampires attack him, though he doesn't have a power he can definitely kick some ace. Totally hot I might add!Well one night he runs into Rayna, and the life he thought he knew is forever changed.
Rayna is this half-demon half-hunter that's also a witch, totally unheard of. She is also exiled, not in the sense as Chase but close to it. You see she kills her kind, well the bad ones anyways, so she doesn't fit in with the Underworlders, and she looks too much like a demon to fit in with the hunters. Marcus is a hunter whose taken Rayna under his wing and helps her develop her powers and her element. When they stumble upon Chase in an alley, things begin to shift.
Though there is no defined love story you can't help but see the attraction between Chase and Rayna, it leaves me hope for the books to come. Will Chase and Rayna be more important than they realize? Will Chase be able to set aside all of the things he was taught to be wrong? Where will this path he takes leave him and just how does Rayna's uniqueness fight into this equation? You'll have to find out for yourself!
This is a great series starter. I am a hopless romantic who has a soft spot of magic,demons, and adventure. Which this books has plenty of.
Chase Williams is hunter who was exiled from the circle (which is a demon hunting group/society) Chase is skilled he has th hunters strength and speed. He is in no way weak. So why is he exiled? Well on this fifteenth birthday;unlike all the other hunters;Chase didn't get his elemental magic. Which is what defines him a hunter;so they exile him
Like saying hey you dont have magic? well sucks for you,you gotta go.
But not only is Chase exiled, so is his mother. is father? Nope hes safe. Can you say jerk? Just gonna let your son and wife be exiled.
So a few years later Chase and his mom are surviving barely. One night Chase runs into Marcus a "dead hunter" and Rayna a "demon"
Rayna and Chase clash instantly.
Marcus revels some intresting things and thats when things get tricky
This is an amazing book. It focuses on the will and strength of this one boy and his journey as he begins to learn that all things he once believed are all lies.
Loved this book.
