He notes, however, that the evolution of the high-end coffee market might just provide opportunities for Haitian coffee farmers to help themselves, despite the underlying difficulties they face.

This is a great and informative book about the coffee industry, or lack of, in Haiti. Everyone involved in ag development projects, not necessarily on coffee, should read it.
This is an excellent little book on the nature and causes of Haiti's failed political system, and it offers an compelling example of why economic progress is so difficult. If you want a short primer on why Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world, look no further. Plus, you'll learn a good bit about coffee.
Mr. Watkins took a deep dive into the Haitian coffee industry, and pointed out clearly and succinctly the problems it has face and will face in the future. He packs in many informative bits and varying perspectives very well.
Brief overview and introduction to politcal and economic history of Haiti through coffee. I would recommend this book to anyone curious about Haiti.
Tate Watkin's book about the Haitian coffee industry provides historical and social background to help the reader understand the larger economic context. Mr. Watkins analyzes centuries of foreign intervention, including the aid industry, and a history of self-serving and failed governments in order to explain Haiti's fall from its position as the world's largest coffee exporter to one of the smallest. This is a realistic portrayal of current-day Haiti and its unique challenges.
This was a pretty interesting and short read. The author looked into the sometimes gritty history of Haiti and how it effected the coffee industry. Alongside analyzing historical struggles, such as dictatorships and the arduous task of throwing off French bondage, Watkins also looks at the negative role NGOs have had in stifling the Haitian coffee industry when compared to other comparable coffee producers. If you're looking for a quick interesting read this is a good option.
